It is my daughter that made me realize that courage comes in all shapes and sizes. It can be a huge event or over coming something others might think of as very small.

This summer my 4 year old who doesn't like water took swimming lessons. The level she was in was Sea Turtle. I knew going in that it was going to be ever harder for her because her dad was overseas and he was the one who had done the lessons with her before. I was not looking forward to this.

After much protesting in the car, I got her to sit with the other kids in the class, who were all older than her. She sat there quiet and still, I am sure she was hoping that they would just over look her.  Then it came to her turn. They asked her to jump into the water from the side of the pool. She looked over at me, as if to ask "do I have to mommy?"  When I nodded, her eyes got wide and began to fill with tears.  Although terrified, she didn't let herself cry.
She just stood there for a long long time and then as the tears began to fall, my brave little sea turtle jumped.  It seemed to take forever for her to come back up from under the water.
Once she did though, through my tears, I saw that there was a huge smile on her face.

She was so proud of herself, and I was so proud that m y baby had faced her fear head-on and had found the courage to jump.

I hope that she can always find that courage deep down inside to face whatever life throws her way.
